Ring-tailed Lemur (Lemur catta) moving its hands upwards to pull a fruit-laden branch. The lemur's posture is reminiscent of the attitude of a preacher giving a sermon. Ring-tailed Lemurs forage in troops in daytime hours in southern portions of Madagascar in a variety of habitat types including rainforests, subalpine, deciduous, gallery, and spiny bush forests. Decreasing populations where decline is driven by habitat loss (forest clearance for charcoal and excessive slash and burn agriculture), bushmeat hunting, and illegal pet trade led to the species being rated as Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 2018.
