Warding off brood parasite
Male Village Weaver (Ploceus cucullatus) warding off with its claws a Diederik Cuckoo (Chrysococcyx caprius), which was threatening a Village Weavers' nesting area. We observed the long and arduous nest building ritual of Village Weavers and noticed that a male was specifically entrusted with the task of fighting intruders such as this Diederik Cuckoo brood parasite. Captured in the Eastern Serengeti Natioanl park, Tanzania.
