Juvenile vervet monkey preparing Mopane delicacy
Young vervet monkey (Chlorocebus pygerythrus) comfortably perched on top of a mopane tree (Colophospermum mopane) and grasping a mopane seed pod to chew on the tender bits and suck its oily milk. Mopane leaves and fruit are an important source of food for mammals and birds in Botswana and also have strong medicinal properties to treat various inflammatory conditions.
