Oxpeckers' symbiotic feast on impala
Red-billed oxpeckers (Buphagus erythrorynchus) foraging on the flanks, back and neck of impala (Aepyceros melampus) to pluck ticks and other parasites off the animal. Oxpeckers are also often seen with hair in their beak which they pluck from the animal fur to line their nest, as is the case in this image. On the other hand, oxpeckers provide an effective alarm system to impalas against predators. Captured in Burunge Wildlife Management Area, in Babati District of Manyara Region, Tanzania.
