Striated heron (Butorides striata) also known as mangrove heron, little green heron or green-backed heron deftly perched on thorny acacia tree. Striated herons have rough toe padding which enable them as much to stand 'comfortably' on thorny acacia as to catch a slippery fish on the fly. Foreground blur of acacia thorns and the smooth bokeh background concur nicely to make the feather details stand out. Captured in Eastern Serengeti National Park, Tanzania.
