Coucal in plain sight
White-browed coucal or lark-heeled cuckoo (Centropus superciliosus) perched on a stump. Portrait in morning light with minimal background clutter (the bird prefers thick cover) reveals a well-defined creamy-white supercilium. Contrary to cuckoos, the white-browed coucal is non-parasitic, a trait shared with other members of the subfamily, Centropidinae. In this species, the males construct the nest, and both parents share incubation duties as well as feeding and care of their young.
